Paul became Director General of the Council of Mortgage Lenders on 1 August 2011. He was until April, Chief Executive of UK Payments, a post which he held for six years. He set up, and was the first Chief Executive of the UK Payments Council, which sets strategy for collaborative payments in the UK. He was very involved with the introduction of the Faster Payments Service in 2008, the first new payment system in the UK for 25 years; and in the production of the UK’s National Payments Plan. Before payments, Paul was the first Director General of the Association of IFAs, the representative body for the community of independent advisors which was formed in 1999. He also was instrumental in the formation of the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries. During his earlier career, Paul has worked for the London Stock Exchange, the Association of British insurers and the Independent Television Commission. He started his working life at the Department of Trade and Industry. | |
Bob Pannell, Chief economist Bob has overall responsibility for the CML's economics, statistics and research work, information services website. He works closely with other CML teams to ensure that policy and PR work is underpinned by rigorous, clear and relevant analysis | |
Sue Anderson, Head of member and external relations Sue and her team are responsible for the CML's relationships with CML members and associates, external stakeholders, the media and parliamentarians. Sue has written widely on mortgage market issues and is spokesperson for the CML. | |

Jackie Bennett, Head of policy Jackie has overall responsibility for the policy work at the CML. This comprises lobbying government on relevant issues and representing the CML to government, regulators and other stakeholders. Her specialist subject areas include home information packs and valuation issues. | |
Matt Smith, Senior policy adviser Matt is responsible for regulation policy, with a focus on delivering the industry’s response to the mortgage market review in its various stages. He was previously responsible for financial crime policy at the CML and has led the implementation of several key policy initiatives in this area including the successful re-launch of the FSA's information from lenders scheme and the disclosure of incentives form for new-build properties.

Nick Wood, Senior policy adviser Nick Wood has been at the CML since December 2009 and leads on a range of issues, including arrears and possessions, credit risk and Northern Ireland. He has previously held a range of policy roles within both the public and private sector. | |
Martijn Van der Heijden, CML chairman Martijn, head of lending at HSBC, became chairman of the Council of Mortgage Lenders on 8 August. Martijn has extensive UK financial services experience, having worked at HBOS and Santander before joining HSBC in 2007. He has an MSc in Business Economics from Rotterdam University and an MBA from Cambridge University. Previously, Martijn was deputy chairman of the CML. | |
