FSA's comparative information tables

Last updated 19/11/2008: any recent updates in this colour.

The FSA's comparative tables cover a range of financial products including Unit Trusts and OEIC ISAs, personal and stakeholder pensions, investment bonds,  mortgage and savings endowments, and (since 23 June 2008) payment protection insurance.

The mortgage comparative tables were launched in November 2002 and allow consumers to compare mortgage products based on their individual needs and preferences.

Details are provided of initial and ongoing interest rates, monthly payments, early redemption charges, set up fees and incentives. Consumers can also filter the information to tailor the range of products to their needs.

Currently, the tables provide information on standard first charge mortgages for house purchase or remortgage. Buy-to-let, sub-prime, lifetime and equity release products are not included.  Products from mortgage packagers are also excluded.

The FSA reviews the mortgage comparative tables regularly, and is looking at adding information on the cost of mortgages to consumers over certain periods of time. It would welcome any suggestions about which charges should be included in the cost to the consumer, and any problems which you foresee in providing and displaying such information. Comments can be sent direct to tables@fsa.gov.uk.
