Mortgage rescue in England

Last reviewed 06/05/2014: any recent updates in this colour.

The government-sponsored Mortgage Rescue Scheme (MRS) was available throughout England for vulnerable households facing possession (families with children, the elderly, those with a disability or pregnant women).

MRS closed to new applicants from 31 March 2014, except in London where it had closed to new applicants at the end of 2013. Mortgage to Rent applications referred to housing associations in the English regions by 31 March 2014 will have the opportunity to complete during 2014/15.
