Housing benefit reform: recent developments

6 January 2009 | This paper provides an overview of the government reforms to the calculation and payment of housing benefit in the private rented sector. It also addresses the issues that the reforms pose in the social rented sector for lenders involved in funding housing associations.

Housing Corporation (delegation) etc Act 2006

3 November 2009 | This paper provides a brief overview of the Act, which received Royal Assent in July 2006 and came into effect immediately. The Act addresses problems caused by the Housing Corporation incorrectly granting consents to registered social landlords.

Review of council housing finance and rents policy

28 August 2008 | Caroline Flint formally launched a review of council housing finance on 10 March 2008. Although the review focuses on council housing finance, it has a workstream on rents covering rent policy across both councils and housing associations. The CML is being consulted as a stakeholder at various stages of the review due to complete by Spring 2009.
