Aspirations to home-ownership are being squeezed by a combination of first-time buyer affordability constraints and a shortage of housing. Lenders will do what they can to try to find new solutions to old problems, but the government will need to do more to address the housing shortfall.

Cable sets out views on responsible lending

The Liberal Democrat shadow chancellor Vince Cable last addressed the lending industry directly 15 months ago at our annual conference. Today, he calls for the implementation of a new traffic light warning system to identify risky mortgages.

It was a two-tier market in 2009, with lending for house purchase recovering while remortgaging declined. Meanwhile, first-time buyers in East Anglia were the most likely to benefit from the stamp duty holiday.

Three new associates join the CML

Three new associates join the CML

AON Benfield, First Title and Milliman have all become associates of the CML. There are now 109 members and 77 associates.
