Brian McCormick has been appointed the new chairman of CML Northern Ireland. Currently head of mortgages at First Trust Bank, he has more than 25 years' experience with his employer, working for almost half that time within the mortgage market in Northern Ireland.
On taking up his appointment, Brian McCormick said he was looking forward to the challenge and thanked his predecessor, Derek Wilson, of Ulster Bank, who has held the position since April 2011. Brian McCormick continued:
"The market in Northern Ireland continues to face challenges but the rise in first-time buyers in 2012, together with the flow-on effects of the Funding for Lending scheme and Help to Buy mortgage guarantee, due in January next year, give grounds for optimism that the mortgage market in Northern Ireland is on the road to recovery."
The CML is planning to publish its latest quarterly data on the mortgage market Northern Ireland on Tuesday, 28 May.
