From 1st July the Council of Mortgage Lenders is integrated into a new trade association, UK Finance. For the time being, all UKF mortgage information will continue to be published on this website, and UKF member-only mortgage information will only be available here.

UK Finance represents around 300 firms in the UK providing credit, banking, markets and payment-related services. The new organisation takes on most of the activities previously carried out by the Asset Based Finance Association, the British Bankers’ Association, the Council of Mortgage Lenders, Financial Fraud Action UK, Payments UK and the UK Cards Association. Please go to www.ukfinance.org.uk for wider content and updates from UK Finance.

The elected MPs have been swearing their allegiance to the Queen this week

Week in Westminster

The elected MPs have been swearing their allegiance to the Queen this week in advance of the start of the new parliamentary session.

Labour has confirmed Roberta Blackman-Woods as their new shadow housing minister, replacing Emma Reynolds following her appointment to shadow communities secretary.

The SNP has confirmed its front bench team. Stewart Hosie will be the party’s “group leader” on the economy, and Roger Mullin their Treasury spokesman. While Eilidh Whiteford will lead on social justice and welfare issues.

Information on special and other advisers is also slowly starting to trickle out. Camilla Cavendish (currently associate editor at the Sunday Times) will take over from Jo Johnson as the new head of the No 10 policy unit.

The Queen’s speech which will outline the government legislative programme for the 2015/16 parliamentary session will take place on 27 May. We expect to see a housing bill to implement the government pledge to extend the right-to-buy to housing association tenants amongst the legislation announced.

And finally, there will be a Budget statement on 8 July.
