From 1st July the Council of Mortgage Lenders is integrated into a new trade association, UK Finance. For the time being, all UKF mortgage information will continue to be published on this website, and UKF member-only mortgage information will only be available here.

UK Finance represents around 300 firms in the UK providing credit, banking, markets and payment-related services. The new organisation takes on most of the activities previously carried out by the Asset Based Finance Association, the British Bankers’ Association, the Council of Mortgage Lenders, Financial Fraud Action UK, Payments UK and the UK Cards Association. Remortgaging boost continued in October

Non-seasonally adjusted data released by UK Finance today shows that the number and value of loans for remortgaging and for house purchases rose in October in comparison with a month ago and with the same period in 2016.

Borrowing by movers up 16 per cent in Northern Ireland

Home buyers borrowed £480 million, up 12 per cent on the second quarter of 2017 and 20 per cent compared to the third quarter last year. There were 4,300 loans taken out for house purchase, up 10 per cent quarter-on-quarter and 19 per cent compared to a year ago.

Movers and remortgaging boosted activity in Wales

Home buyers borrowed £1.17 billion, up nine per cent quarter-on-quarter and 16 per cent year-on-year. They took out 8,700 loans, up seven per cent compared to the previous quarter and 13 per cent on the third quarter of 2016.

Remortgaging up eight per cent in Scotland but housing activity is flat

Home buyers borrowed £2.55 billion, up one per cent quarter-on-quarter and 15 per cent year-on-year. They took out 18,900 loans, the same as in the previous quarter but 11 per cent more than in the third quarter of 2016.

Lending in London grew strongly in third quarter

Home buyers borrowed £6.74 billion for house purchase, up 10 per cent quarter-on-quarter and 13 per cent year-on-year. They took out 19,600 loans, up nine per cent compared to the previous quarter and six per cent on the third quarter of 2016.

Prospect of rate rise boosted remortgaging in September

On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, UK Finance data shows that total mortgage lending declined in September but remained higher than in the same month last year.

Mortgage arrears fell in third quarter

The number of mortgages in arrears of 2.5 per cent or more of the outstanding balance fell again in the third quarter of 2017, but cases of possession edged upwards from an historically low level.

July mortgage lending data shows that lending for house purchase in July was lower than in the preceding month but higher than a year earlier. First-time buyer lending increased year-on-year. Remortgaging by home owners increased both month-on-month and year-on-year.
