From 1st July the Council of Mortgage Lenders is integrated into a new trade association, UK Finance. For the time being, all UKF mortgage information will continue to be published on this website, and UKF member-only mortgage information will only be available here.

UK Finance represents around 300 firms in the UK providing credit, banking, markets and payment-related services. The new organisation takes on most of the activities previously carried out by the Asset Based Finance Association, the British Bankers’ Association, the Council of Mortgage Lenders, Financial Fraud Action UK, Payments UK and the UK Cards Association. The Government has recently opened a consultation on various changes to the National Planning Policy Framework.  The consultation is seeking views on some specific changes in the following areas that are of interest in relation to our ongoing work on development of the Starter Homes scheme:

  • Broadening the definition of affordable housing, to expand the range of low cost housing opportunities for those aspiring to own their new home (the proposal will include starter homes in the affordable housing definition)
  • Supporting the delivery of starter homes (relating to the local authority duty to promote the development/ supply of starter homes)
