UK Finance works with and on behalf of UK mortgage lenders – banks, building societies, specialist lenders (including those who are authorised to service mortgages) – to provide a single voice for the industry and promote sustainable housing finance in the UK.
We also represent those who lend commercially to social housing. Our members undertake an estimated 97 per cent of the UK’s residential mortgage lending.
We engage with policymakers across the UK and EU. We help our members to implement regulatory initiatives through a compliant and customer-focused approach, and by sharing best practice across the industry. We provide comprehensive lender data and statistics to help policymakers understand key trends and the impact of legal and regulatory change. We also support the home buying process through the UK Finance Handbook and our work with governments and representatives from the legal communities.
The mortgage and housing markets are constantly evolving to meet the needs of customers. Currently our key priorities are supporting homeowners affecting by fire safety concerns; helping ‘mortgage prisoners’ caught out by regulatory changes to mortgages; supporting people affected by the coronavirus pandemic; and helping to create a sustainable and green future for housing.

Mortgage lenders have expressed concerns about the levels of knowledge among mortgage advisers about the later life lending market. Register your interest for our Later Life Lenders programme to help address issues relating to adviser knowledge and their ability to communicate options.
